Subscription & Refund Policy

How OpenBait subscriptions are billed and renewed, and how cancellation and refunds work.

Last updated: October 2026

This is an English translation of the Japanese original. If the two differ, the Japanese version governs.

This policy sets out how OpenBait subscriptions are billed and renewed, and how cancellation and refunds work. By using a paid plan, you agree to it.

1. Plans

1.1 Plan types

OpenBait offers the following plans:

PlanMonthlyWhat it includes
Free$0Report page, confirmed phishing sites sent to the browser blocklists, monitoring, alerts (no takedowns included)
Pro$299Up to 3 takedowns a month for 1 brand; reports to registrars and hosting providers and copyright (DMCA) notices filed for you; taken-down sites checked daily
Business$499Up to 10 takedowns a month for up to 2 brands; everything in Pro
Enterprise$899Up to 20 takedowns a month for up to 3 brands; SAML single sign-on; invoicing. Set up by email

1.2 Feature differences

See the pricing page for what each plan includes.

1.3 Monthly limits

Limits are counted in takedowns. One takedown is one fake-site domain you ask us to take down, counted from the moment we send its first report. If it has had no effect fourteen days after its first report (the site has not gone offline or been suspended, and no browser warning has appeared since we started work on it), we credit it back to your monthly limit, and we keep working on it. If a site comes back on the same domain, we ask you to confirm it again, and reporting it again does not count; a new domain is a new takedown. Limits reset on the 1st of each month (UTC), whatever your billing date, and do not carry over. The Free plan includes no takedowns. A site you confirm once the month's takedowns are used up (on Free, always) is still sent to the browser blocklists, and on any plan you can add a takedown for it for $199 (1.4). You can also add it with next month's takedowns from the 1st, or move up a plan and add it with the new plan's. For what each status on a case means, see Takedown statuses.

Response targets, not guarantees: reports that go out automatically are sent when you confirm. The first report that needs a person goes out within 2 business days on Pro and 1 business day on Business and Enterprise, counted from when you have confirmed and your authorization letter is in.

Each month we start work on new, unrelated groups of copies at these targets: one group on Pro, two on Business, three on Enterprise. Work on further unrelated groups that month starts within 5 business days. This changes only when work starts, not what is counted or charged.

1.4 Added takedowns ($199)

  • On any plan, Free included, you can add a takedown for $199 (USD) to a case confirmed after the month's takedowns were used up
  • You pay when you add it, once, by card through Stripe, on the case page. We start once the payment has gone through
  • It is a one-time payment, separate from your subscription, and does not renew
  • It is refunded in full if we have not yet sent the first report for that case. Once we have, it is not refunded, except for duplicate charges and technical errors (4.1). If the same case is paid for twice, the second payment is refunded in full
  • The first-month guarantee (4.1) covers your first subscription payment, not added takedowns

2. Billing cycle and automatic renewal

2.1 Billing cycle

  • Monthly plans: charged automatically on the same day each month (when you upgrade, that day becomes your billing day; see 5.1)
  • Yearly billing: not offered on the pricing page; after three months on a plan you can ask to move to yearly billing (12 months for the price of 10), charged on the same day each year

For example, if you start a monthly plan on January 15, you are billed on the 15th of each month.

2.2 Automatic renewal

Important: automatic renewal

Unless you cancel before the end of the current billing cycle, your subscription renews automatically and your payment method is charged for the billing cycle you chose.

Renewal rules:

  1. When: at the end of the current billing cycle
  2. Amount: the price you signed up at (we give 30 days' notice of any price change)
  3. Payment: charged to the payment method on your account

2.3 Price changes

If a subscription price changes:

  • we email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect
  • the new price applies from the start of your next billing cycle
  • if you do not accept the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect

3. Cancellation

3.1 How to cancel

You can cancel at any time:

  1. Self-service: sign in → Settings → Billing → Manage subscription → cancel on the Stripe page that opens
  2. Support: email contact@openbait.com

3.2 When cancellation takes effect

  • After you cancel, paid features stay available until the end of the current billing cycle
  • For example, if you cancel a monthly subscription billed on the 15th on January 20, paid features stay available until February 15

3.3 Your data after cancellation

  • After cancellation, your account moves to the Free plan
  • Historical data is kept for 90 days
  • After 90 days, data beyond the Free plan's limits may be deleted

3.4 Resubscribing

You can resubscribe at any time. Your earlier data is restored automatically if it is still within the retention period.

4. Refunds

4.1 When you get a refund

Full refund before work starts

On any paid plan (Pro / Business / Enterprise), you can request a full refund at any time before we send the first report for you.

First-month guarantee (all paid plans)

If none of the sites we take on has had any effect 30 days after the first report we send for you (the site has not gone offline or been suspended, and no browser warning has appeared since we started work on it), we refund your first payment in full. Request it within 30 days after that. This applies once per workspace. It does not apply if we could not start because the authorization letter was missing, and sites you withdraw do not count.

*Yearly billing is available only by arrangement (2.1). If it is cancelled mid-term after we have sent the first report, it is not refunded, but you can keep using the service until the end of the term.

4.2 When there is no refund

Unless one of the cases in 4.1 applies, we do not refund:

  • cancellation after we have sent the first report, outside the first-month guarantee
  • accounts suspended for breaching the Terms of Service
  • promotional or discounted subscriptions (unless stated otherwise)
  • inability to use the service for reasons on your side (network problems, device problems and so on)

4.3 How to request a refund

  1. Email: send your request to contact@openbait.com
  2. Include:
    • your account email address
    • your subscription order number
    • the reason (optional)
  3. Review: we check the request and reply
  4. Payment: once approved, the refund goes back to your original payment method

4.4 Pro-rata refunds

We may give a pro-rata refund in these special cases:

  • a major outage lasting more than 24 hours
  • a significant feature change that affects your core use case
  • other special cases we approve on review

Pro-rata refund: refund = (days remaining / total days) × subscription fee

5. Upgrades and downgrades

5.1 Upgrades

  • An upgrade (for example Pro → Business) takes effect once the payment for it has gone through. Until then you stay on your current plan
  • A new billing period starts on the day you upgrade, and you are billed on that day each month from then on
  • The unused part of your current plan is credited, prorated by day, and the difference from one month of the new plan is charged at once. For example, moving from Pro ($299 a month) to Business ($499) ten days into the month credits about 20 days of Pro (about $199), so you pay about $300 at once and a new month of Business starts that day
  • Moving from Free to a paid plan starts when the payment has gone through
  • Enterprise is set up by email: write to contact@openbait.com

5.2 Downgrades

  • Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing cycle (for example Business → Pro)
  • You keep the current plan's features until then
  • The difference is not refunded
  • Resources over the new plan's limits (brands, team seats and so on) are restricted when the downgrade takes effect

6. Payment methods

6.1 Accepted methods

  • Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB) via Stripe
  • Invoice (Enterprise only; contact us)

6.2 Payment security

  • All payments are processed securely by Stripe
  • We never store full card numbers
  • 3D Secure is supported

6.3 Failed payments

If an automatic charge fails:

  1. Stripe emails you and retries the charge over the following two weeks
  2. your plan stays active while it retries
  3. if the last retry fails, the subscription is cancelled and your workspace moves to Free; sites already taken down stop being checked

7. Invoices and receipts

7.1 Receipts

A receipt is emailed to your account address after every successful payment.

7.2 Invoices

If you need an invoice with your company details (including a qualified invoice under Japan's invoice system), email contact@openbait.com within 30 days of payment with:

  • your company's legal name
  • your registration or tax number
  • your address

8. Contact
